Adobe Business Catalyst

Adobe Business Catalyst

I really liked the idea of Business Catalyst when it was purchased by Goodbarry (and still see the benefits). We came very close to giving it a shot in our workflow environment, but someone at Adobe was smoking when they thought the masses would jump aboard with their original price tag. Things have changed though and it’s yet to be determined whether Adobe can gain traction with BC. Time will tell, but WordPress is definitely gaining steam as the go-to CMS.

BC is a one stop shop, hosted Content Management System that enables web designers and front-end developers to build and deploy customizable websites and stores. As easy as it was made, there is still a learning curve though. Here are some key points.

  • Built in modules.
  • Ability to use HTML and CSS to design and customize the dev environment.
  • Features built-in Ecommerce and Email Marketing functionality.
  • Customized web forms, data capture & admin presentation.
  • Dreamweaver integration striving towards seamless editing process.
  • Minimal server administration. Hosting, email accounts, FTP access all included.
  • Subscription based and affordable.

Business Catalyst on our Pro Plan (valued at $39/month) includes:

  • Hosting
  • 1TB in bandwidth per month.
  • 10,000 email newsletters per month.
  • 1GB of disk space.
  • 1 Business Catalyst administration user.
  • 10 email accounts.

Adobe Story

Adobe Story

It comes with writing tools, collaboration features, breakdown reports, metadata created by your script or outline, and helps to frame your story as you move through production workflow. It also allows you to import  from Final Draft, Movie Magic Screenwriter as well as Microsoft Word.

It’s Storyboarding and Scheduling gives you a better way of keeping track of your story with the team. Story also is featured as an iPhone app that gives you anytime access to your projects.

Adobe Muse

Adobe Muse

Muse enables graphic designers to design and publish professional, dynamic HTML/CSS websites without writing code.

Codename ‘Muse’ is an ambitious product from Adobe that enables graphic designers the ability to design and publish professional, dynamic HTML/CSS websites. So what’s the big deal? Well, they plan on doing it without forcing the designer to write any code. (somewhere a front-end developer is either banging their head against the wall or realizing that they will have even more business from code that has been messed up by a machine somewhere)

Here are some features.

  • A wide range of web-safe fonts to give your site a unique feel.
  • Ability to add dynamic modules to the website via drag-and-drop widgets
  • Free-form design tools to help customize the look/feel of the widgets.
  • Slide show, place video, or embed HTML ie. Google Maps, YouTube..etc.
  • Custom blog in your site as well as client access to blog.
Integrated with Adobe’s hosting platform you will be able to publish a trial site for testing, push the site live, make updates and manage the ongoing site. Your client can also have admin access so that they can update their blog, monitor site traffic..etc. (Sounds to me like this is an in-road to BusinessCatalyst)
